Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • piping bag
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper

Ingredients

Macaron Shells

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cups egg whites aged and at room temperature
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • green food coloring

Filling

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Macaron Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) to ensure a perfect baking environment for the macarons.
  • In a bowl, sift together the almond flour and powdered sugar to remove lumps and create a fine mixture.
  • In a separate clean bowl, whip the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form, giving the meringue a glossy texture.
  • Gently fold the sifted almond flour and powdered sugar mixture into the meringue. Be careful to maintain airiness while ensuring all dry ingredients are incorporated.
  • Mix in green food coloring until the batter is evenly tinted, giving your macarons their festive appearance.
  • Using a piping bag, pipe the batter onto a parchment-lined baking sheet in small, tree-shaped or round mounds, spacing them evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until the macarons develop their characteristic crisp shell. Remove and let them cool completely on the baking sheet.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until smooth and fluffy.
  • Sandwich pairs of macarons together by spreading the buttercream filling evenly on one shell and topping with the other.
  • Optionally, decorate the assembled macarons with additional holiday-themed details to enhance their festive look.

Notes

For best results, use aged egg whites and allow them to come to room temperature before whipping. Be gentle when folding the dry ingredients to maintain the airiness of the meringue. Allow the macarons to rest for 20-30 minutes before baking to form a skin, helping to prevent cracking. Store macarons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; bring to room temperature before serving. If desired, decorate with edible glitter or sprinkles to enhance the holiday theme.
