Dry Ingredients
- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1.5 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar

- 8 oz cream cheese for frosting
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter for frosting
- 4 cups powdered sugar for frosting
Baking Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat eggs, then add vegetable oil, buttermilk, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar. Mix well.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy. Frost cooled cake layers and serve.
